The West Coast Local Theatre Fest was held at the NBS Theatre on Saturday, 3rd August, showcasing 4 local performances of amateur theatre. The the overall winner was ‘White Lies’ written and directed by Tracey McEwing from Granity Players and has been selected to move onto the Regional TheatreFest held in Blenhiem on the 17th August.
Granity Players held a fundraising event to support their trip on Sunday, 11th August and thanks to the support of the NBS Theatre for hosting this event and local business sponsorship have raised for target for taking their show to the Blenheim Boathouse Theatre for the Theatre Federation National Regional Finals .
The show doesn’t stop their and the cast have been asked to perform for two nights at the Otago University UNESCO short play festival in September and will be putting on further performances to fundraise for the opportunity to represent Buller at this International Event.
TheatreFest was run by the Buller Community Arts Council (through the tireless efforts of Mary McGill) in conjunction with Theatre NZ, and in collaboration with Tracey McEwing (Granity Players) and Gary Smith (KSM Productions). The event itself gives amateur theatre the opportunity to not only present but have their efforts adjudicated by an independent assessor.
